Heritage Olympiad

Heritage Olympiad is India’s first online olympiad on culture and heritage, an initiative by Cultre to sensitize young minds to India’s rich and multi-faceted cultural heritage. This initiative aims to strengthen heritage education and provide a comprehensive test of Indian heritage, focusing on its three main aspects: Tangible, Intangible, and Natural Heritage.

Objectives

  • To promote non-linear approach of learning about Indian culture through its intrinsically interconnected domains

  • To promote awareness of and involvement in heritage to inculcate a respect for diversity, tolerance, mutual understanding, patience and promote peaceful co-existence in school children

  • To enable learners to immerse themselves in an exploration of India’s pluralistic cultural traditions with specific emphasis on the local

  • To inspire young children and encourage them to build a future through an understanding of the past and the present 

  • To complement existing education curricula by enhancing the students’ comprehension of a variety of scientific, aesthetic and historical concepts

  • Inter-disciplinary approach to arts & cultural education – focus on process, material and technology.

  • Promotes a positive local and national identity by stressing culture and the positive aspects of human endeavors

  • The curriculum broadly aligned with major National and International Boards.integrating concepts of:

    • Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) so that children can contribute to a better future for all.

    • Environment & Sustainability: expanding the idea of heritage to include nature and introducing the notion of our responsibility towards its preservation.

    •   Protection of  Traditional Knowledge, Heritage Sites and Historic Cities

 

THO 2021

 

The first edition of The Heritage Olympiad was held on World Heritage Day, 18th April, 2021, and was open to students from classes 5th-12th, university students, as well as heritage enthusiasts. The school edition was held on 14th November 2021 exclusively for school students. The Heritage Olympiad was supported by many prestigious institutions and brands including UNESCO, FabIndia, Sahapedia, Amar Chitra Katha, Juggernaut Publishing, National Rail Museum, Nehru Planetarium, INDIC Academy to name a few.

The events were a huge success due to the strong participation of people from all age groups, ranging from 10 - 65 years! We also received participation from people from all corners of India spanning 26 states and 4 Union Territories, totalling 390 cities. Additionally, the olympiad garnered international interest, with participants from 20 countries apart from India taking part, and even securing top ranks!
